To benefit from the primary purpose of the school experience, it is essential that each student maintain regular and punctual daily attendance in all classes. Class attendance is necessary for learning and academic achievement; as well as for developing the habits and responsibilities of punctuality, dependability, and self-discipline.

Attendance is a high priority at Southeastern High School. Student achievement and attendance are directly correlated.

The State of Michigan has a Compulsory Education Law (MCLA 380.1561), which makes it the responsibility of the parents or guardians to see that any child between the ages of 6 and 16 attends school properly equipped to participate in the school activities. The child’s attendance must be continuous and consecutive for the school year.

Violations of this law occur “if a child is repeatedly absent from school without valid excuse.” This can include a pattern of tardiness, early dismissal or a pattern of absences.

Mondays through Fridays, the academic day begins at 8:00 AM and ends at 3:20 PM

The goal of Parent Academy is to provide parents the tools and skills to build capacity and confidence to support students academically, socially, and emotionally. All classes are free and offered in convenient locations to meet parents where they are. Parent Academy focuses on three key pillars: Student Achievement, Personal and Professional Development, and Parenting/Advocacy.

PowerSchool Parent Portal

The PowerSchool parent portal provides parents with direct access to student data via the Internet. Using a confidential ID number and password provided by their child's school, parents can create their own PowerSchool account using a web browser or the PowerSchool app and view their child’s data, such as progress reports, attendance records, report cards, transcripts and more. During account creation, parents can create their own unique username and password. The credentials listed on the form from the school will link the student to their parent's account.

To log on to ParentPortal:

1. Open the webpage  

2. Enter Username and Password, click “Log In”

The first time you login to the PowerSchool app for your phone or tablet, you will be asked to enter the District's unique four digit code: PSNW

Southeastern Dress for Success Expectations

The purpose of the SE Dress for Success Dress Expectation is to ensure that each student is dressed in clothing conducive to promoting a positive learning environment and ultimately prepares them for Success in their future career expectations.

Pants / Slacks  / Shorts / Capris / Skirts

• Pants must be black, khaki, navy, or grey ( No Denim Material)
• Pants should not have holes, be frayed, or drag the ground.
• Pants should be solid in color, with no stripes, two-tones, or extra decorations.
• Pants must have a waistband, with belt loops.
• A belt must be worn. Pants should be worn at the waist.
• No jeans of any type may be worn.
• No stretch material may be worn.
• No Yoga Pants, Leggings, are allowed unless worn beneath a skirt or shorts or worn with a long top.
• Shorts, capris, and skirts must be at the knee level or longer.

Shirts

• Shirts must be solidly white, black, or purple
• Shirts must have a collar and sleeves that are at least 3 inches long
• Shirts must not be tight, see-through, or provocative.
• Shirts must be a solid color with no extra decorations.
• If a shirt has a logo, it must be less than a quarter in diameter.
• Undershirts may not be worn.
• Camisoles are not appropriate.
• Turtlenecks and mock turtlenecks are allowed.

Sweaters / Sweatshirts / Warm-up Jackets / Hoodies

• Sweaters/Sweater vests are allowed, with the appropriate collared shirt worn underneath.
• Warm-up jackets are allowed. No stripes, decorations, or different colored linings are allowed.
• Hooded sweatshirts may be worn.
• Hoods cannot be placed on the head in the building.

Jackets / Coats

• Any type of jacket or coat may be worn to school but must be immediately removed and placed in the locker.

Expected Behaviors for School Cafeteria

• Stay in line /No cutting.
• Use inside talking voices at all times.
• Clean up after yourself. Use trash bins.
• No Running or Horseplay
• Respect the cafeteria environment and Cafeteria Staff
• Follow directions.

Expected Behaviors for School Auditorium

• Enter and leave the auditorium quietly.
• Listen attentively to the directions of any school staff.
• Use an inside voice until the quiet signal is given, then stop talking.
• Respect performances with whole body listening.
• Clap and show appreciation at the end of each performance.

Expected Behaviors for School Halls

• Walk to the right of the hall.
• Use Inside voices.
• Follow directions of any school staff.
• Go directly to your destination.
• Keep hands away from displays and bulletin boards.

Expected Behaviors for Bathrooms

• Keep our bathroom clean.
• Respect the privacy of others.
• Keep your hands to yourself.
• Head back to class quickly.

Transportation FAQs

The following information are some frequently asked questions regarding transportation.

How do I qualify for a D-DOT bus card for public transportation?

Free and reduced D-DOT bus cards will be distributed 2 weeks after start-up of student’s high school. The eligibility requirements are as follows:

1. Student must attend their neighborhood school.
2. Student must receive meal benefits.
3. Student must reside more than 1½ mile from the assigned school.

Reduced-fare passes may be available directly from the student’s neighborhood high school.

What can I use to ride the D-DOT bus at the beginning of the school year until bus cards are issued?

Students with a bus card from last school year will be allowed to board D-DOT buses for the first 2 weeks of school until the new passes are issued at the free or reduced rate indicated on the card.

Students with high school identification cards can ride the D-DOT for $0.75 cent each way until the new cards are issued within the first two weeks of school.

All Students will be allowed to ride the D-DOT bus with no pass or student id for the first day of school only for the reduced fare price of $0.75 cent each way.

Detroit Public Schools students who do not have a high school identification card or a bus card from last year will be issued a reduced fare card on the 1st day of school.

EXAMPLE: 8th graders attending a new high school or others who may not have student identification but qualify for a free or reduced fare pass under the Districts Transportation policy. The pass will allow students to ride for $0.75 cent each way until new passes are issued on the 2nd week of school.

My student lost his/her D-DOT bus card. How does the student obtain a replacement bus card?

Notify the school of the need for a replacement card. The school forwards a request to Transportation who sends the school the replacement card. If another card needs to be replaced per students, it must be purchased from D-DOT at $136.50 per semester.

How do I get answers to school transportation questions?
